Cameo Appearances

There are many things that I am enjoying about living in Birmingham. One of them is working with a team of ladies who’ve lived and ministered all over the world. We host a weekly luncheon for international women called Cameo. It is essentially a hospitality/friendship event, but as those hosting it are all Christian, it has also become a Bible study. There are ladies from Korea, Iran, China, Japan, Philippines, Nigeria and Mexico. Either they or their husbands are graduate students at the University of Birmingham.

Sometimes I teach. Sometimes I cook. Sometimes I take care of the children. There is such a wonderful openness and sharing about our lives, God and the Scriptures. Yesterday, one of the Iranian ladies brought tears to my eyes as she said, “My country is very rich. We have everything. But we don’t have freedom to think.” A Chinese lady told me two weeks ago that she was sure God brought her to England for a reason, but is struggling to see what that reason is. I come home tired and happy.

Ice Cream Psalm

The goodness of God is like vanilla ice cream

sliding off my tongue down my throat.

The blessing of God is like my father’s ice cream dish

Packed down and full to the brim.
